Q: Can I incorporate Balance?
A: Incorporation of Balance is not recommended. Weed control can be reduced if Balance is incorporated deeper than 5 cm. Trial work has shown more consistent results when Balance is applied PSPE (post-sowing-pre-emergence). Because Balance should not be incorporated, it is not compatible with trifluralin. Q: Why would I add simazine?
A: Simazine addition is recommended in fields infested with wireweed, climbing buckwheat (black bindweed) or grassweeds. These are weeds on which Balance alone has little effect. The addition of simazine can also help with the control of broadleaf weeds where populations are high. Q: Can I use Balance as a post-emergent salvage spray?
A: No. Balance is only registered for PSPE application. If Balance is used post-emergent, it could result in severe crop effects. Maximum residue limits for post-emergent applications are not established. Q: Can I use Balance on other legume crops?
A: No. Balance will kill most legume species, including lupins, faba beans, lucerne and lentils. Balance can yellow and stunt the growth of field peas. The suppression of volunteer pulse crops in chickpeas is a significant benefit, because it minimises the need to clean grain to remove contaminants. Q: What other weeds will Balance control?
A: Balance will control many other winter broadleaf weeds, but there is still insufficient data for registration on these weeds. Q: Balance is registered in sugarcane for control of grassweeds; why not grassweeds in chickpeas?
A: Balance has very little, if any effect on the common winter grassweeds such as wild oats, annual ryegrass and phalaris.
