Seed Treatment

The seeds from which the crop is grown are the key component of any cropping system. Nonetheless, seeds have generally been the least considered factor in crop planning. In the past, growers have been more concerned with the price of seeds than their intrinsic potential to improve crop performance.

With new developments in plant science and imperatives to maximise productivity, growers are placing increasing value on the genetic package encased in each and every seed and the yield potential of each individual plant.

Favourable environmental conditions are critical to successful germination and during plant establishment and early growth.. The most effective, convenient and affordable way to help optimise these conditions is by seed treatment - that is, by treating the seed with beneficial agents before it is sown.

Seed treatment represents one of the smallest financial inputs a grower can make, but can provide very large returns on investment. Efficient application is essential to ensure that every seed is covered with the optimum amount of chemical, so the advantages of the seed treatment are maximised.

This website is one component of how Bayer CropScience can assist producers and other input providers keep upto date with new technology and innovations within the seed treatment area.
